TI National Chapters in the Middle East and North Africa
National chapters form the basis of the Transparency International movement. They act as the implementing partners for the majority of the national work on corruption, and provide clear insights into the realities on the ground.

Bahrain
The Bahrain Transparency Society (BTS) is the first and only Bahraini non-governmental organization focusing on promoting transparency and fighting corruption. The society was established in November 2001 granted National Chapter in Formation (NCiF) status in November 2005.
The vision of BTS is an independent Bahraini society that operates with a high level of professionalism in order to establish a society free of all forms of corruption and the misuse of public authority.
Objectives
- Improve public awareness on the dangers of corruption
- Strive to implement legislations, laws and by-laws in support of transparency in all government bodies and in the private sector
- Reveal the forms and roots of corruption
- Identify gaps in legislation and procedures relevant to corruption
- Demand the quick ratification of the United Nations International Convention against Corruption by the Kingdom of Bahrain
- Pursue the establishment of a national alliance against corruption among civil society organizations
- Strengthen relations among civil society organizations and social forces in countering corruption
- Pursue the establishment of national indicators on corruption in Bahrain
- Issue scientific studies and research relevant to corruption and its consequences
- Strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations
- Establish a network of medial outlets and journalists to counter corruption
Activities
- Awareness raising of topics such as whistle blower protection, transparency, citizens’ rights, integrity and transparency of non-government organizations, free and free election, administrative transactions, and private sector
- Monitoring of elections
- Various workshops on topics such as political party finance and financing election campaign, on economic journalism, best practices of Corporate Governance in the private sector
- Awareness raising campaign on the United Nations Convention against Corruption

Kuwait
The Kuwaiti Transparency Society has been a local partner of TI since 2005 and was recognised as National Contact in January 2007. The organization has been granted National Chapter in Formation (NCiF) status in 2008.

Lebanon
The Lebanese Transparency Association (LTA), established in May 1999, has been affiliated with the TI movement since 2003. It is the first Lebanese NGO that focuses on curbing corruption and promoting principles of good governance. Its main objective is to establish the rule of law, thus advancing the concepts of transparency and accountability. Moreover, LTA aspires at strengthening respect for the basic Human Rights as declared in both the Lebanese Constitution and in numerous International Charters.
Objectives
- Raising citizens’ awareness about their rights
- Shedding light on corruption, its causes, consequences and costs at all levels within society
- Empowering youth to reject corruption and participate in promoting transparency and accountability
- Improving the Lebanese legislation related to transparency, accountability and corruption
- Coalition building with similar national, regional and international organizations
- Cooperation with the media in order to encourage it to unveil truths, strengthen integrity and promote transparency in the practices of public and private institutions

Morocco
Transparency Morocco (Association Marocaine de lutte contre la corruption) was officially founded on 6 January 1996. Ever since, that day is celebrated as Moroccan Anti-Corruption day. The organization has been a TI National Chapter since 1999.
The organization’s general objective is to fight against corruption in all its forms by following the strategy of promoting a national integrity system. TM aims to be a catalyst on issues relating to corruption for initiatives and coalition building, particularly from civil society, the private sector and government.
Objectives
- Conduct and disseminate studies aiming at improving comprehension of the nature of corruption
- Educate the public on the need to resist corruption
- Involve business, political and other target groups in promoting good governance and transparency
- Motivate political will within government circles
- Initiate and encourage positive role models (islands of transparency)
- Contribute to the development of education programs related to the fight against corruption
- Defend victims of corruption
Activities
- Organize roundtables and workshops on corruption fighting strategies
- Publish "Corruption in Everyday Life" as well as a bimonthly “Transparency Bulletin” newsletter
- Celebrate Moroccan Anti-Corruption Day with publications, media and conferences
- Develop a memorandum and a covenant for a “Morocco without Corruption”

Palestine
The AMAN-Coalition for Integrity and Accountability (TI Palestine) was established in the year 2000 as an initiative by a number of Palestinian civil society organizations working in the fields of democracy, human rights, and good governance. In 2006 AMAN was granted National Chapter status by Transparency International making it the third full-accredited chapter in the Arab World after Lebanon and Morocco.
The organization’s seeks to advocate for and provide support towards uniting Palestinian efforts to combat corruption. At the same time the organization seeks to participate in building an effective national integrity system.
Objectives
- Promote a popular culture that supports anti-corruption initiatives in public institutions
- Promote anti-corruption among leaders and public service employees and institutions
- Contribute to the building of effective institutions, initiatives, and legislations capable of combating corruption at the local level
